Scottish Stroke Play Championship (Carrick Neill) 2015

Alastair Thurlow has had a brilliant weekend up north as he played in the Scottish Strokeplay Championships at Moray Golf Club. This is Scotland's biggest event and attracts an international field. Making the cut is no mean feat but young Ali was up to the challenge, something several international players couldn't claim to do. 144 started the tournament and with two rounds in the low 70's saw Ali made the cut and proceeded to do himself and Murrayfield Golf Club proud. He said the conditions were unbelievable at Moray (old), the wind blowing strong (much like everywhere else) and the mental challenge was just as great as the physical. Ali is off to the USA on a golf scholarship later this year and I know from experience any college there is lucky to have him!

Titleist fitting event last Saturday

Thank you to all who came along to try out the latest of what Titleist have in their 2015 range. Some of you came to either get fitted by David or came along to trial just what was on offer. Dave Stapleton (pictured below) was trialling the Vokey SM5 out of the bunker.

Justin Rose loses Ohio play-off to Lingmerth

As the last round come coming to a close of play, Justin Rose suffered a timely and appalling moment when someone in the crowd shouted as he was trying to execute a tricky bunker shot. That resulted in a bogey and then he fought well to get back tied with Lingmerth to force the play off. Sweden's David Lingmerth beat England's Justin Rose in a play-off after three extra holes. It would have been great to see Rose win but it's also brilliant to see someone win their first event.

Pro/Member Challenge Matches

For those of you still wondering what the format is: team of four including one pro £30 entry, best one stableford score per hole on the front nine, two scores per hole on the back nine. Prizes will be allocated at the end of the season to the team with the most points.

This is great fun and we thought it would be a good idea for us to get out there more often and see how good the general standard of golf is at MGC and hopefully learn something!

It was a say on Saturday where many of the coastal courses were closed but we remained open. Dave takes the rare best nett and scratch prize with an outstanding 69 gross! That drops his handicap down now to 1.9 and heading in the right direction. Ronnie and Euan take the other top nett prizes with some great golf in those windy conditions.
