Jonnie Plays Aberdeen Pro-Am I played in my first event for two seasons last week over the fantastic Royal Aberdeen, Cruden Bay and Trump Aberdeen links. I was lucky enough to be invited to play by Murrayfield members Tim & Ralph Bain and Alan Morrison.
The weather over the days was mixed, from foggy and very still to hail storms and 30mph winds.
I am pleased to say I didn’t play too badly overall with a 3 over at Royal Aberdeen, Level par at Cruden Bay, then a very hard fought 10 over at Trump. To be honest Trump in 30mph wind and hail was probably a step too far for me and the amount of competitive golf I have played. A 9 on the par 5 10th hole was really what did me in after a lost ball in a bunker, to that point I was only 2 over which was a good front 9 in the conditions. The phrase ‘thumped by Trump’ has been used several times since my return, which sounds more like one of his presidential campaign slogans I hate to say!
Anyway the team faired pretty well finishing 10th, which again was probably held back by playing Trump on the final day in the toughest conditions, but it was a very respectable outing. I finished 17th myself and just scraped into the prizes! It was a hugely enjoyable three days and I am already trying to talk the team into playing again next year, if they have thawed out by then!
