Paddy’s St Leonards success.....again!!
Well done to one of our keenest junior members, Paddy Lawrence, on once again winning the St Leonards School Tournament at St Andrews. Paddy shot an awesome 73 on the Strathtyrum course to take the title he also won last year. Paddy has worked really hard on his golf this year and has seen some brilliant results, also making it to the final of the Club Junior Championships here at MGC. Paddy is one of many juniors we can be really proud of at Murrayfield and has a big future in golf. Here are some of our other juniors with Paddy – Sam Goldsmith, Robb Hawthorn (junior Champion here) and Mikey Haysmith. Was that really this week in St Andrews guys? Looks like Florida!!!!
Intimation
It is with great sadness I inform you that Bob Taylor passed away just over a week ago. Bob has been a member at Murrayfield for over 33 years and was very popular with us all. He was well known for his squash and curling ability also and was a pleasure to be around.
Autumn Golf Rules
Thank you to Shona Stewart for suggestion we run a weekly rules explanation. As the season changes we find ourselves in unusual situations on the golf course sometimes so I thought we would throw a bit of light on the subject. So we will start in the bunkers!!!!
Rule 13-4 Ball in hazard; prohibited actions:
Basically this rule states that you cannot ground your club in a hazard, test the surface with a practice stroke, or move loose impediments that lie in the bunker.
Now, a Loose Impediment is classed as a natural object that is not - fixed or growing, solidly embedded or, adhering to the ball.
But, at Murrayfield we do have a Local Rule (24-1) that allows us to move stones from the bunker if they interfere with our stroke at the ball.
So what does this all mean? Basically the only object you can remove from a bunker is a stone if it interferes with your stroke. You cannot remove anything else that naturally occurs such as twigs, leaves, grass cuttings etc. And you cannot ground your club or hit the sand in a practice stroke before you hit your actual shot.
Hope this helps, there will be more in the weeks to come!
