Greetings from Jonnie,

Success story

Last week was a huge one, not just because the Masters started, signifying the start of the golf season as we know it, but also because one of Murrayfields Junior Members won the Scottish Boys Matchplay Championships at Murcar near Aberdeen.

Eric McIntosh joined Murrayfield in late 2012 at the age of 13. Now 17 he has landed one of Scottish Golf's most sought after tournaments.

After seeing off one of the tournament favourites in the 5 round, Eric went on to win the final against Lewis Irvine, from Kirkhill Golf Club, 2&1 after an afternoon birdie blitz with 5 in 16 holes.

Eric has been a key team member for the Murrayfield Juniors in the last 3 years, helping Murrayfield get to 3 Lothians finals, winning the Scottish Area Team Championships last year which then qualified the Junior Team for the Home Nations Team Championships held in Spain this March in which we came 2nd.

Here is a reminder of the great Team that went to Spain and did the club so proud!

On Top of Eric's amazing achievement, Murrayfield had a further 4 players playing in the Scottish Boys last week, easily the most ever. Bobby Gibson, Robb Hawthorn, Stuart Thurlow and Paddy Lawrence all played. Bobby, Robb & Paddy all made it to the 3 round with Robb & Paddy getting through to the 4th round. I cannot tell you the extent of how incredibly impressed I am by all the junior team, not only with what they have achieved in the past year, but also by their attitude, manners and dedication to improving.

I hope they all have a great season and keep enjoying the game!

The Masters

Willett The Wunderkind
I think that has to be up there with one of the most entertaining from the various incidents that happened over the week from Ernie Els multiple putt meltdown to Jordon Spieth's water hazard double….

Danny WillettDanny Willett did look steady all week and did deserve that victory in the end, it will be forever seen as Spieth throwing away the Masters rather than Willett winning it. The ups and downs were tremendous to watch, not only the good ones but the bad ones that kept the week so close for all competitors, even Lee Westwood. When he chipped in for an Eagle it showed signs that this could have been his one to win!

As for the British contingent though in the Masters, that certainly bodes well for the upcoming Ryder Cup this September! There was 7 Europeans in the top 10 this year!
