Is your putter right for you?
It’s amazing how many people overlook the importance of getting a custom fitted putter. Putting accounts for approximately 45% of your score and getting custom fitted for a putter is key to turning three putt bogies into birdies. Here’s an example of a putter fitting that member Catriona did with Mike last week. We hope this gives you a better feel and idea of what the process involves and how it can help your game.
Step 1: Aim Via a quick alignment test at setup, we discovered that Catriona was aiming her two ball putter four inches left of the center of the hole. The goal during this part of the fitting process is to find a putter that you can aim correctly.
Step 2: Launch Direction Getting the ball started on the correct starting line is key when it comes to putting. During this stage of the fitting process the goal is to find a putter that can help you launch the ball on-line consistently resulting in more holed putts.
Step 3: Roll Percentage Getting the ball rolling effectively on the putting green is the goal of this stage in the process. As you can see from the images below, Catriona was able to increase her roll percentage to 88% thanks to Odyssey’s revolutionary Microhinge Insert Technology.
Step 4: Distance Control Distance control is one on the most overlooked aspects of putting. Catriona was hitting her own putter (shown in blue below) too hard. The goal was to hole a 7.33ft putt and Catriona was hitting her putts on average 4ft too far. As you can imagine, this would likely result in a number of 3 putts on the golf course.
